Jesus is the good shepherd who went one step beyond David’s list of provisions – He gave His life for the sheep-us (John 10:11). But then that’s Jesus. And David is David. And we are who we are – just men. So the question is how did David protect his sheep from the lion? And how did Jesus give His life for the sheep-us?

Both David and Jesus trusted in God who owns their lives. God can take it as well as preserves it. In David’s case he was save from the lion and Goliath (I Sam 17). In Jesus’ case He was resurrected and all powers and authorities in heaven and earth was given unto Him by His father who loved us by sacrificing the life of His Son (John 3:16). What a thing worth waiting for! David as a shepherd knows what a shepherd is, hence he related God to what he does – a good shepherd that protects the sheep. “He restores my soul”, says David in Psalm 23:3. He went on in vs4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;” thus showing how strong and weighted his trust in God really was.

David knew from history how God was with his forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He knew how God promised them and fulfilled His promise by providing, increasing, enlarging and making a nation out of them. So he asserted that that God was is shepherd who would provide everything he needed (vs1). Hun-un, Hun-un! I wish I could say that. But again, aren’t we all men who can never be satisfied?

If only we can think, deeply, we might be able to realise what God does in our lives daily. What! Do we have to think deeply to breathe fresh air, sleeps at night, wakes up in the morning, see the cloud, see the rain and see the sun? Oooooo No. We do not have to think deeply as David said in Psalm 8:3 that “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained”. God was so awesome to David that he went on to conclude the psalm, “O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth” (Ps8:9). Awesome. I think God deserves our gratitude.
God gave us a continuous provision of blessing that overflows. And after the provision and the feeding God provided a comfortable place of rest in form of a green pastures – not a dry pasture, but a cool-green pasture that is surrounded by the still waters (Ps23:2). According to David, God is complete in His entirety. He will give peace, in a perfect peace. He will give joy, in abundant of joy. He will provide home for the family, a peaceful home. A troubled waters is that of a chaotic, confusion, sadness and calamity, such as that in Matt8:23-26 where “a great tempest arose in the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves…Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” Jesus. That is Jesus.

God will save us from any satanic embargo, from every weapons of wickedness, from every unholy opposition, from every demonic holds and curses, sins and calamity. This is how He restores our souls, for His names’ sake, for us to serve Him, and for us to worship Him. Hence, His thoughts for us are that of peace and not of evil, to give us a future and a hope. Then we will call upon Him and go and pray to Him, and He will listen to us, declared Jeremiah. (Jeremiah 29:11-12).

Remain Blessed this week
